Can you use a coworking address on Google Business Profile?

Google's guidelines allow a coworking address only with clear signage, customers received during business hours and your own staff there. A virtual office is never eligible. Here is the full rule and what a remote business can do instead.

Usually not, and the reason is written into Google's own guidelines. A coworking address qualifies for a Google Business Profile only if the office maintains clear signage, receives customers at the location during business hours, and is staffed during business hours by your own staff. All three, not one. A desk you use on Tuesdays and a mail slot at reception meet none of them.

The service-area rule is the one remote businesses miss. Google states that a service-area business cannot list a virtual office unless that office is staffed during business hours, so hiding the address does not rescue an ineligible one. What hiding is for is a real address you do not want customers turning up at, such as a home.

What a remote business can do instead

  • Use a real address you actually work from, hidden, as a service-area business. If that is a home, this is exactly the case the rule was written for.
  • Keep the registered address on the website. A postal address in your Organization schema and contact page is a statement about where the company is registered, and the Business Profile guidelines do not govern it.
  • Skip the profile rather than risk it. A listing built on an ineligible address can be suspended, and a suspension is slower to recover from than never having listed.

How a profile then competes in the map pack is covered in what actually moves map pack rankings, and how to show coverage without a storefront in each town is in service area pages that are not doorway pages.
