The busiest hours on a veterinary website are the closed ones

Half the traffic arrives worried, at night, on a phone. If the first screen does not say whether you are open and where to go, nothing else on the site gets read.

Veterinary websites get an unusual traffic shape. There is a steady base of people choosing a practice, and there are spikes of people whose animal is unwell right now, usually at night, usually on a phone. Those two visitors want completely different pages, and most practice sites are built only for the first.

Three things, one screen

A worried owner at ten at night needs to know whether you are open, what to do right now, and where to go. If a practice refers out of hours, the page should name where, with the address and the number, even though that sends the visitor somewhere else. That is the page that earns the relationship, because the owner remembers who helped at the point of panic and comes back for everything afterwards.

Book a call

Booking takes load off the front desk

In most practices the constraint is not demand, it is the phone. Every routine appointment booked online is a call the front desk does not take while a client is standing in front of them. That makes online booking the clearest return on a veterinary site, ahead of design and ahead of content. It has to be honest about what it can do: booking a vaccination is a slot, booking a sick animal is a triage decision, and a form that pretends otherwise either creates clinical risk or gets quietly ignored by staff who know better.

Say what things cost

Price is the most common question on the phone and the least common answer on the site. Publishing indicative costs for routine work, with what changes them, removes a call, pre-qualifies the client and reads as confidence. Practices that resist it usually worry about looking expensive beside a competitor, which is an argument for explaining the difference rather than hiding the number. The rest of what this vertical needs is on our veterinary page.
