What a second language costs after the build is finished

Both platforms sell languages as a metered add-on. The per-locale price is the visible cost; the monthly word allowance is the one that surprises a content-heavy site.

A second language is the most commonly underestimated line in a website budget. The build cost people expect; the per-locale subscription, the word allowance and the translation upkeep they do not, and those three are what the decision should actually turn on.

The allowance is the trap

Both platforms meter machine translation, and a content-heavy site burns an allowance faster than anyone expects, because every edit to a source page re-translates. A blog publishing weekly in three languages is not a small localisation job. If the content programme is the point of the site, price the ongoing allowance before the build, not after.

Machine translation is a first draft

On both platforms the translation is good enough to publish and not good enough to sell with. Headlines, pricing language, legal copy and anything carrying a cultural assumption need a human pass, and right-to-left languages need a design pass on top of that because mirroring a layout exposes alignment, iconography and number formatting decisions that nobody made deliberately. We build trilingual sites, including this one, and the design work for Arabic is consistently larger than the translation work.
